    Two for Thursday!

Happy Thursday!  I know, I know my post title doesn\’t rhyme.  Par for my week.  The heat went out at our building last night, so my brain hasn\’t thawed yet.  I\’m applying liberal servings of coffee.

I have two posts for you today!  One is by me, ~waves~, because I\’m over at Beyond the Veil today talking about – what else – NaNoWriMo!

The second thing I have for you is a chance to win prizes! Woot! My buddy Dani Wade is up at the Nice Girls Writing Naughty blog today with some tips on staying the course – if you\’re feeling discouraged, this post is a great pick-me-up. Plus, she\’s giving away a prize to one lucky commenter – AND you will be entered to win our grand prize of $25 USD to All Romance eBooks.

    Happy reading!

  • Join Me For Ghosts of the Past

Join Me For Ghosts of the Past

Our theme for the month of October at Beyond the Veil is \”ghosts.\”  Ghost stories, ghosts of the past, ghosts that still haunt us.  I started to write a light romp and it turned dark on me, but sometimes stories do that.  Join me for an autobiographical look at the past and the ways it can haunt the present.

  • One, Two, Three, FOUR!

I moved recently. If you\’ve read my posts recently, this will not be news.  If you\’re new here, welcome!  ~waves~  I\’ve moved recently.

Yeah, I said that already.  Stress makes me repeat myself.

I moved… Just kidding.  But as part of that move, I got all out of whack with myself and my promotional calendar.  I\’m in the process of climbing back on that horse and, apropos of that, have been wandering around the interwebs, looking for places to share the luv.

Well, today I hit the jackpot and have not one, not two, not three, but FOUR posts to share with you!  (I know I sound like a late-night television ad – \”Don\’t wait, call now and get TWO widgets for the price of one.\”)  So, in an effort to spare you my move-inspired sense of humor, I shall get to the links:

First up, my friend and mentor Tina Holland invited me to be on her blog and I jumped on that one with all four feet!  Hell, I even borrowed feet to jump on it with.  With which to jump on it…  Whatever, I\’m there.  I\’m so excited!  She wanted to know more about what it\’s like to write with a partner.  Come on by!  The Clog Blog

Next up, we have my regular monthly post for Beyond the Veil.  I have to laugh – I started to write it and realized I\’d started writing to next month\’s theme.  Oops.  I went with it, though, and give you \’Dem Bones, \’Dem Bones…

As rarely happens, my regular post for Torquere Press\’s LiveJournal coincided with my Beyond the Veil post, which is why I have FOUR offerings today instead of one.  Lucky you!

My first journal post is about searching for the magic formula that makes a short story something special.  (Wow!  Look at that accidental alliteration.)  Seeking Short!

My second journal post is about music, writing, and inspiration.  I share some of my favorite musicians that inspired the Persis Chronicles.  The Music of Persis.  Check it out!

    Thank you for visiting!

  • Sunday Box Talk: The Next Big Thing

For today’s offering of Sunday Box Talk, I offer you the Next Big Thing, an event where participating authors share their insights on their current in-progress novel. My agent provocatrix is Meg Allison, fellow author at Beyond the Veil and \”wife, mom, and published romance writer\” (love her tag line, don’t you?).

I know talking about my favorite subject, my writing, isn’t exactly about the boxes of life, but here’s how I’m thinking of it: my life centers around my writing and my family or home. I think ruminating on that for a while is a useful exercise when we’re thinking about our boxes and why they’re there.

So, without further ado, here are my Ten Interview Questions for the Next Big Thing. Stay tuned at the bottom for links to some other participants in this event.

TNBT: What is your working title of your book?

Noony:  Our next book is called BOUND BY FIRE.

TNBT:  Where did the idea come from for the book?

Noony:  I was at my coauthor Rachel’s house and we were talking late one night. She has a print over her desk of a dragon at the portcullis of a castle and he is talking to a castle denizen. Of course, the assumption is the dragon’s there to eat the occupants, but I got to thinking, what if the dragon were an ally?

TNBT:  What genre does your book fall under?

    Noony:  Fantasy M/M romance.

TNBT:  Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

Noony:  We actually selected models to play the two main characters, and use a lovely site called Beautiful. It’s a labor of love by two men in Europe and is one of the most professional sites on the internet for erotic male photography. If you haven’t checked it out, take a visit (not work safe and make sure you’re over 18).

TNBT:  What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

Noony:  Gosh. Good question! I always find these exercises tough. We struggle over the blurb for the books we write and I hope, someday, they’ll get easier. Let’s see what I can come up with for now:

Will Vanya, apprentice to an unscrupulous sorcerer, be able to free himself from a powerful binding with an elemental or will he become bait for a dragon?

TNBT:  Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

Noony:  Neither. We are targeting a specific house for this one, but we do not use an agency right now.

TNBT:  How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

Noony:  Not very long; the first draft only took a month or two. The challenging part has been the ending and bridges in the middle. I’m finding the endings are the most challenging part of any project.

TNBT:  What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

Noony:  Some of the elements of the MYTH ADVENTURES series by Robert Asprin and Jody Lynn Nye influenced us, as well as the early Harlequin white-covers where the romance is between two people brought together by arrangement.

TNBT:  Who or what inspired you to write this book?

Noony:  My inspiration comes from many different places, especially my coauthor Rachel Wilder and the crew of Writer Zen Garden. I love you guys.

TNBT:  What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

Noony:  There are snakes, and bears, and sorcerers, and dragons. What more could you want? Oh, yes. The smut. Lots of lovely smex.

  • Several Recent Articles

Happy Bredesmas!  As we pause to take stock as February winds on and January just goes \”poof,\” I realize that I haven\’t shared my recent articles with you.  Shame on me!  I figured I\’d make up for it by listing all of them in one post, rather than an individual post for each one.

In January, the theme for the Beyond the Veil blog was \”Inside Publishing.\”  While I don\’t really feel like I could be characterized as being \”inside\” publishing, I share my views in \”Aunt Noony\’s Inside Look at Publishing.\”

For the Silken Sheets and Seduction blog, I wrote \”Happy Bredesmas.\” I share a little about what the holiday means to me and talk about one of my favorite crafts, candlemaking.

Bestselling author Delilah Devlin was kind enough to host Rachel and I again as guest bloggers, for which we wrote \”Be Like a Groundhog; or \’What To Do After the Resolution.\’”

I had two articles on my publisher\’s blog, one as a guest for another author who couldn\’t make their regular post.  In it, I talk about how I organize my novels despite not using a formal outlining process.  \”Hate Outlines? Timeline!\” Then, today, I share \”Squeezing It In:  5 Tips for the Overstressed Neterati.\”

    Enjoy!
