A to Z Challenge, Day 8: H Is For Harry Potter — No Comments

  1. Get ready to be shocked – I\’ve never read the books. However, I have seen all eight movies.
While I would dig seeing my three books as movies, done up like Star Wars, the lack of privacy that would follow would scare me.
Can\’t imagine the world without it? In books, both Edgar Rice Burroughs (who gave us Tarzan and John Carter, the first space opera) and Tolkien\’s LOTR. The latter\’s movies are far better though and have left such an impact on storytelling. (Although if not for the books, I would not have my favorite Sword of Shannara series by Terry Brooks.)

    • I LOVE Sword of Shannara!! Gosh, blast from the past. I really enjoyed getting to know Edgar Rice Burroughs through the movie John Carter; my husband was already a fan of his books and I had never read them so it was like a double-whammy.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment, Alex!

  2. You can\’t knock success. She did it and she captured the imagination of someone at the right time. The same for Twilight. How many writers can do that? Answer: not a lot. So while I\’m not a fan of the sequels to these books, I take my hat off to the first ones.

    • Hi, Clee! Thanks for the return visit!

I agree, they definitely sparked the imaginations of a lot of people. That would be pretty exciting to ride that train. 🙂

  3. The Tortallan world that was created by the ever lovey Tamora Pierce. She was my favorite writer growing up and I will probably still be reading her stuff in my 60s. This actually encompasses a few series, but they are all set in the same fantasy world

    • Wow, Alexandra, it\’s rare that I totally haven\’t heard of a book or fantasy world. Thank you for giving me a new one to explore! I\’ll have to check out Pierce\’s work. Happy blogging!

  4. Mercedes Lackey\’s \’The Last Herald Mage\’. I didn\’t realize until I was older that having the main character be a gay male wasn\’t common.
